247 refugees were relocated to other Member States in the European Union in 2021 and during the first six months of 2022.
Answering a parliamentary question, Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri revealed that the refugees were relocated through the ad hoc relocation scheme.
He was asked by PN MP Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici to disclose the number of refugees and persons who deserved protection who were relocated in this time period.
Camilleri also said that these numbers are expected to rise through the solidarity mechanism agreed upon in the Justice and Home Affairs Council last June, and through bilateral discussions which are currently in progress between Malta and other Member States.
