A man was critically injured this afternoon in a hit-and-run accident, the police said.

The incident took place in Triq San Tumas corner with Triq Stiefnu Zerafa, Marsa, at 1pm.

The pedestrian, a 54-year-old man of Marsa, was hit by a car whose driver sped off.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Rachel Montebello is leading an inquiry.
