A statue of Jesus in Girgenti was burned overnight, the NGO Madonna Tal Konsagrazzjoni Girgenti said on Monday.

On a Facebook post, the NGO posted photos of the burnt statue, also showing that the cross which was right next to it was also damaged.

The statue was made by the sculptor Clive Busuttil and was placed in Girgenti in October 2016.

Maltese people expressed their disappointment towards in the comment section.

The possibility of the statue having been vandalised has not been excluded.
