A teenager was critically injured when he was hit by a car in Hamrun on Tuesday evening, the police said.

The accident took place in St Joseph High Road at 9pm.

The 18-year-old Syrian man, resident in Fgura, was hit by an Opel Corsa being driven by a 24-year-old man of Msida.

The pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Magistrate Josette Demicoli is leading an inquiry.
