There will not be a State funeral for Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, according to the former Prime Minister’s wishes.
In a statement, the government said that Prime Minister Robert Abela informed the family that it was ready to organise a State funeral.
The family appreciated the gesture but informed the OPM that Mifsud Bonnici had signed a declaration, before his death, that he did not wish to have a State funeral.
Abela is respecting this wish, the government said, but will be helping the Mifsud Bonnici family in the organisation of the funeral.
The funeral will be held on Monday at the Immaculate Conception church in Hamrun, at 2.30pm.
Malta will be observing two days of national mourning, on Sunday and Monday.
