PN MP pays tribute to ‘Uncle Karm’ as others recall ‘humble gentleman’

PN MP Paula Mifsud Bonnici was among the many who paid tribute to Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici, who died on Saturday.

Paula Mifsud Bonnici wrote on Facebook that the former prime minister was “a great uncle to all of us. We shall surely miss your sense of humour, kindness and humbleness.

Paula Mifsud Bonnici is the daughter of Antoine Mifsud Bonnici, Karmenu's brother, who had served as an MP and parliamentary secretary for the Nationalist Party.

Many others took to the social media to pay their respects.

Prime Minister Robert Abela said Malta had lost a gentleman who gave an enormous contribution to the advancement of the working class through his work as a lawyer, politician and advice to trade unions.

The Labour Party said that Karmenu Mifsud Bonnici will be remembered for his dedication to the workers alll throughout his life.

 

Former Minister Evarist Bartolo said Mifsud Bonnici was an exemplary person, a rare honest politician who dedicate his life towards creating a more just society.

Minister Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi said Mifsud Bonnici always worked towards implementing his ideals.

Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant said Mifsud Bonnici's demise is a great loss for "Maltese Labourism". He was a man with a vision, understood the working class, believed in the values of Christianity and socialism, and was ready to do anything to implement these values in the best interests of the country. He did this without personal ambition, greed and hatred.
