A Turkish sailor was injured in an accident on a ship which was leaving the Malta Freeport, the police said.

The accident took place at 6.30am, with the sailor injured as the rope got tangled around him.

The 38-year-old was brought to shore by members of the Civil Protection Department, and taken to hospital.

Magistrate Astrid May Grima is leading an inquiry.
