A man from Valletta was arrested on Saturday morning after he was found to be in possession of 84 sachets of drugs, the police said.

The 33-year-old was seen behaving suspiciously in Hgejjeg Street and was also observed by officers passing on some items to another person in Gulju Street.

It was here that the man realised he was being followed by the police and tried to make his escape, with the officers giving chase.

He was arrested in Cern Street with 51 sachets containing heroin and 33 sachets containing cocaine.

Magistrate Gabriella Vella is leading an inquiry.
