400 graduate from courses offered by the Pastoral Formation institute

More than 400 people have successfully completed the courses offered during the last academic year for the Pastoral Formation Institute (PFI), the Curia said in a statement.

The annual graduation ceremony took place on Friday 25 November, and was led by the Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi. The ceremony began with a mass of thanksgiving followed with presentation of the certificates.

Among the courses offered were in the field of catechism, the roots of the Christian faith in Judaism, theology, pastoral care in schools, and the discovery of faith through art. Some of the courses are also recognised by the Malta Qualifications Framework (MQF) and the European Qualifications Framework (EQF).

The Institute began its 17th year of work, with the most recent graduation ceremony being its 15th. The Institute was founded in 2005 in response to a call issued by the Diocesan Synod to offer formation to Christians who wish to go deeper into the knowledge of the faith to better aid to Church and society.

In the current academic year, the Institute is currently offering a number of different courses. Among these are 'Pastoral Care in Schools' and 'The Sports Ministry' which will start on January 14, 'Introduction to the Theology of the Holy Spirit which will start on January 19, 'Emotional Support in the Community' which will start on 24 February, the Development of Environmental Responsibility' which will start on 19 April 2023 and two online courses targeting the 'Introduction to Communion' and 'Introduction to Mass'.
