A public pavement collapsed into the back yard of a St Paul’s Bay apartment block on Thursday evening, also bringing down a boundary wall.

The accident took place in Xaghra tal-Bandieri Street at 7pm.

The yard is situated one storey below the level of the road.

Civil Protection Department personnel and police officers carried out a search in the rubble, but no trapped persons were found.

It is understood that the residence was vacant at the time of the collapse.
