PN to proceed in court with class action against energy bills overcharging

Tuesday, 6 December 2022, 14:31 Last update: about 2 years ago

The Nationalist Party said Tuesday it is going to proceed in court with a class action over overcharging in energy bills.

In a statement, the PN said that the government remains stubborn on the matter by not doing “justice to all those who were robbed intheir electricity and water bills".

A motion was presented in Parliament by the Opposition in July after energy minister Miriam Dalli announced that clients who were overcharged will be compensated up to a maximum of €8 depending on their consumption patterns.

Additionally, a court ruled that ARMS, the company that bills customers for water and electricity, violated the law by billing clients proportionally rather than annually.

The Nationalist Party continues to insist that any compensation should go back to January 1, 2014 when the people started receiving energy bills every two months.

The PN motion sought to give people back all the money that was "stolen", but in the hour and a quarter of the speeches by Labour exponents, the Government only chose to attack, sometimes in a personal way and with lies.

Therefore the Nationalist Party is giving a chance to those who have not yet registered to be part of the collective cause in the Court, and be given the chance to take what is rightfully theirs. They have to register by Friday 9 December from the website kontijiet.com or by submitting their details to the PN’s headquarters.
