Premier League: Elvis Mashike’s goal hands Spartans eleventh win

Monday, 12 December 2022, 05:48 Last update: about 5 years ago

A goal scored by Elvis Mashike just past the hour was all that counted with Hamrun gaining their eleventh win of the cam‐ paign against Gudja United.

Gudja found the winning touch once again last week after beat‐ ing Valletta by a solitary goal. On the other hand Hamrun contin‐ ued to gain more ground and ex‐ tended their lead at the summit to seven points following a win over Santa Lucia.

On 13 minutes following a mis‐ take inside the area by Karl Mi‐ callef the ball fell into Soares path but his cross was cleared just on time.

Five minutes later Soares set Guillaumier but the latters final shot just missed the target. And just past the half hour a long range shot by Camenzuli was saved by Gudja goalkeeper Zam‐ mit.

Eight minutes from the break Gudja put the ball in the net through Plut but his goal was an‐ nulled for an infringement noted by the assistant referee. It looked like a harsh decision on Gudja.

On 40 minutes following a good run by Corbalan the Spar‐ tans midfielder saw his shot just miss out. And on the stroke of half time a Guillaumier volley hit the crossbar.

On the restart Hamrun froced a number of corners and in one of them taken by Bjelicic a Prsa headed just missed the target.

In the 57th minute Camenzuli fired a thunderbolt from outside the area but Zammit was on the alert to block his effort.

On 63 minutes Hamrun forged ahead. Prsa played a corner to‐ wards the edge of the area where Camenzuli drafted the ball in the box and there was Elvis Mashike who slotted the ball past Zammit.

Eleven minutes from the end an Ayrton Azzopardi diagonal shot from just inside the area ended wide.

Till the end Hamrun controlled well with Gudja trying their ut‐ most but all in vain.
