Premier League: Pisani's goal puts Maroons in second place

Gzira United registered a second consecutive win after defeating Santa Lucia by a solitary goal scored by Steve Pisani in first half stoppage time. A win which puts the Maroons in second place, six points away from runaway leaders Hamrun Spartans.

After 7 minutes Gżira went near through a De Assis deflected shot which ended inches wide. Santa Lucia responded two minutes later when Farias surged forward but his dangerous cross found no one to conclude. 

On 17 minutes Gzira once again on the attack when Dias sent a cross from the right flank only for a De Assis header to sail just over the bar. In the 23rd minute Pisani set Dias but his shot was saved by Calleja Cremona.

Three minutes later Bohrer tried to surprise Calleja Cremona with a long range shot which just missed the target.

Just off the half hour mark through a Bohrer free kick. Eight minutes from the end of the first half in a Gzira counter attack Maia found De Assis but the latter sent wide though from an ideal position.

Gzira took the lead in first half added time when a long range shot by Steve Pisani found the net.

Santa Lucia started the second half with a Farias free-kick which ended just wide. With the Maroons responding through Maia whose shot following a solo run didn't find the target.

Sixteen minutes from the end of the match Valpoort tested Zarkov who fumbled but the ball was finally cleared to safety.

In added time Santa Lucia could have snatched a dramatic equalizer with Farias finding Valpoort but his close range shot ended wide.
