League leaders Hamrun Spartans consolidated their leadership with a hard earned victory over Marsaxlokk, a victory that came in the dying seconds of the match when Marsaxlokk looked set to earn a deserved point and score an upset result at the end of the second round.

Matthew Guillaumier scored the all important goal on 94 minutes to frustrate Marsaxlokk who played a diligent defensive match and their hopes were only quashed with Guillaumier’s goal.

Hamrun as expected conducted the match but found the going hard against the well organised Marsaxlokk side.

Hamrun missed a sitter on 27 minutes and the last moments of the first half, Marsaxlokk appealed for a penalty when a shot appeared to hit Bjelicic’s arm, but the referee waved play on.

The second half continued on the same wavelength but Hamrun goalkeeper Bonello saved the day on 64 minutes blocking an Uzeh header.

Five minutes later at the other end Mashike missed a free header off a Camenzuli cross.

Both sides had good scoring opportunities in the dying moments of the game, but then on 94 minutes it was Matthew Guillaumier who managed to head home the winner.
