List of out of stock medicines getting longer – PN

Tuesday, 27 December 2022, 17:52 Last update: about 3 years ago

The list of out of stock medicines which are normally provided by the government is getting longer, much to the frustration of patients and doctors, the Nationalist Party said in a statement.

The provision of insulin has not been regular for a month, the PN said, and this is leading to anxiety for patients who are diabetic.

The PN said that diabetics feel abandoned by the government after it also did not keep its word to provide Constant Glucose Monitors for a wider section of the population and for refusing to set up a parliamentary committee for diabetes.

The PN gave a list of medicines which, it said, are out of stock.

Apart from Novoparid (for diabetes), the list includes Latanoprost (for eye pressure), Galvus (diabetes), Goserelin Injection (prostate cancer), Creon (stomach) and antibiotics against seasonal medical issues.

The PN said that the government has not published the list of out of stock medicines since 7 November, nearly two months, which indicates that the government is trying to hide the problem. The list is normally published every week, on Tuesdays.

That last list showed that 25 medicinals were out of stock at the time.

The PN said the government should be more transparent and effiecient in the buying and distribution of vital medicines.

The statement was signed by Claudette Buttigieg, Ian Vassallo and Stephen Spiteri, spokespersons for the fight against diabetes, primary and mental health care, and health respectively.
