Hamrun Spartans registered a marginal win against Hibernians, but this was enough for them to increase their lead at the summit to eleven points.

Hamrun went into this match with a comfortable lead at the summit of the BOV Premier League. This was further strengthened after Saturday draw  between Gzira United and Gudja United.

The Spartans had won six of their last seven matches whereas the Paolites suffered a big blow in their last match when they were thrashed by Valletta to the tune of four goals to nil. This season has been a rollercoaster for the reigning Champions, a different preposition from what we witnessed last year.

In the first round Hamrun Spartans registered a comfortable win against Hibernians winning by four goals to one.

In the first half play was restricted to the midfield sector with neither side making a way past the opposing defence. But four minutes from the break Hamrun were presented with a golden opportunity to break the deadlock. Bravo brought down Domingos in the area with the referee pointing to the penalty spot. But Matthew Guillaumier failed to convert with Haber saving his shot.

The second half started more brightly and on 55 minutes Grech set Degabriele only for his shot to deflected onto a corner. Hamrun took the lead in the 63rd minute when Guillaumier found Prsa in the area who after making his way past the opposing rearguard slotted the ball in the net.

Hamrun could have increased their lead three minutes later but Domingos missed a sitter from close range with the goal at his mercy.

Till the end Hamrun controlled well with Hibernians failing to mount a reaction. The ultimate success is not too far away.
