An autopsy has shown that a Gozitan man whose body was found in a country road on Monday died after a fall.

State broadcaster TVM quoted sources on Thursday saying that 60-year-old Michael Meilak died after he suffered a fall and hit his head.

The Malta Police Force later issued a statement confirming that Meilak's death had been a "natural" one.

Meilak was found dead on Monday morning at around 10:30am in a private driveway in Ghasri, Gozo, with visible head wounds.

An autopsy now has confirmed that third parties were not involved in Meilak’s death, with the head wounds that he suffered not being compatible with an assault.

The autopsy showed that Meilak died after a fall which most likely happened on Sunday night.

The autopsy was carried out at Mater Dei Hospital.
