Mosta earned an important win against Floriana, gaining three points which put them in fourth place in the standings. A win which keeps them hoping of that much important European berth.

As for Floriana this was another setback in a rather disappointing season which leaves them in a mid-table position.

Mosta were coming from a win against Sirens wheras Floriana lost their last match against runaway leaders Hamrun Spartans.

After 7 minutes Mosta went near through a headed effort by Akrong which went wide.

Floriana replied five minutes later when Kemar Reid fired an acute shot which just  missed the target. And minutes later the Greens threatened once again this tim through Jan Busuttil whose shot from just outside the area ended wide.

On 16 minutes Akpan anticipated Reid and saved his team from conceeding.

But after this early pressure from Floriana, Mosta settled down and a minute from the break they took the lead. It was through a corner, with the ball falling into Jacob Akrong’s path who stretched and slotted the ball into the net.

On 54 minutes Mosta missed  a chance to double their lead when after Emiliano Callegari brought down Zachary Brincat in the area, the referee ordered a penalty. But Clayton Failla failed to convert from the spot with goalkeeper Kitanov saving his effort.

Just past the hour Floriana went near to equalize when of a Kemar Reid cross there was Jan Busuttil only for his shot to be held by the woodwork.

Floriana kept piling on the pressure and in the 70th minute a Reid shot was saved by Akpan. With the same player being rather unlucky when seconds later his shot bounced off the crossbar.

Mosta put the issue beyond doubt six minutes from the end though a shot from the edge of the area by substitute Eziefula Chibueze which beat Kitanov all ends up.
