A new area for art and exhibitions at the Ta' Qali National Park where cultural productions will be held, including exhibitions and theatrical performances, was inaugurated on Tuesday evening by Minister for Public Works and Planning Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi.

This new area will be complementing the existing Greek Amphitheatre which has also undergone a renovation process with new and accessible facilities for artistic needs such as rehearsal rooms, changing rooms and showers among others. Underneath the same theatre, that accommodates around 850 people, a hall that can be used for various functions has also been completed.

In his speech, Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi said that this area will give another dimension to Malta's National Park project which will now "not only be an open space where one can go and spend some quality time with their family, but will also serve as a platform for local and international artists to exhibit their talents."

The Architect in charge of the project, Perit Nadia Curmi explained how extensive service works had been carried out in these rooms with the installation of a new ventilation and air conditioning system. Perit Curmi went on to say that the design of this area was done in such a way that the space was left as neutral as possible, in order for the exhibited installations to stand out.

The completion of this area is another phase of the Malta's National Park project at Ta' Qali which is being coordinated by the Department of Public Works. While thanking all those who worked in this project, Minister Zrinzo Azzopardi concluded by saying that "in its totality, the National Park project will be another certificate of quality that continues to show the Government's work towards creating wonderful open spaces with an emphasis on the environmental aspect and on improving the quality of people's lives."

In this new area, the Department of Public Works in collaboration with the Aviation Museum, is currently organising an exhibition of historical plans and photos that show the history of the development of the area of Ta' Qali throughout the years. The public can also see another exhibition of original graphic illustrations from the books of Trevor Zahra, the renowned author whose name is synonymous with children's books.
