Activist group Occupy Justice has set up a toilet monument outside Castille mocking the government for “flushing Malta’s health care system down the loo” after the court nullified the government’s multi-million deal to privatise three hospitals.
Former Opposition leader Adrian Delia had filed the court case in 2018 in a bid to cancel the 99-year emphyteutical concession agreement awarded to Vitals Global Healthcare later Steward Health Care. The court on Friday declared the contracts null and also declared that there was possible fraud involved in the deal.
“Monument erected to commemorate how our government flushed our healthcare down the loo!” #occupyjustice wrote on Facebook.
It also wrote “THE REAL DEAL” mocking what Health Minister Chris Fearne had said when describing the Steward deal.
The monument has pictures of Prime Minister Robert Abela, Health minister Chris Fearne, former disgraced Prime Minister Joseph Muscat, former Health Minister who was involved in the concession agreement Konrad Mizzi, former Chief of Staff Keith Schembri, former minister Chris Cardona, and former Minister Edward Scicluna.
It also has a sign saying “Special Offer €300,000,000” in reference to the money the government gave to VGH then Steward.
It also has “Poplu Malti” written on toilet paper.
