Texas-based Steward Health Care said it plans on selling five hospitals based in Utah in the United States of America, www.beckershospitalreview.com reports.

An asset purchase agreement was signed which would give Stewards’ five hospitals, more than 35 medical group clinics and a clinically integrated network of providers to CommonSpirit, the website reported.

The plan is for the transaction to close later this year.

The agreement also states that all assets will be managed by Colorado-based Centura Health.

The five Utah hospitals to change hands are Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton, Jordan Valley Medical Center in West Jordan, Jordan Valley Medical Center-West Valley Campus, Mountain Point Medical Center in Lehi, and Salt Lake Regional Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

Last month, a court in Malta ruled that three hospitals which were being managed by Steward Health Care are to be returned under government control.

Former Opposition Leader Adrian Delia won the court case against the 99-year emphyteutical concession agreement awarded to Vitals Global Healthcare, later Steward, on 24 February.

The court nullified all three contracts awarded to Vitals and Steward in a damning ruling suggesting “fraudulent intent.” The Maltese hospitals involved in the agreement were, St Luke’s, Karin Grech and Gozo General Hospitals.
