Malta seeks to contribute more humanitarian aid

Monday, 20 March 2023, 14:32 Last update: about 2 years ago

Malta is committed to continue to be instrumental in contributing to humanitarian aid as part of European support, Minister for Foreign and European Affairs and Trade Ian Borg said when addressing the opening of the 'European Humanitarian Forum', held in Brussels.

Minister Borg recalled how the need for more humanitarian aid is constantly increasing, particularly due to ongoing situations related to climate change and to wars and conflict, mostly that in Ukraine. Minister Borg praised the commitment of the European Union and the member states for always showing solidarity.

He outlined how the agenda of this forum is a clear sign of the way forward. Malta, even as a member of the United Nations Security Council, aims to continue pushing for international action particularly in aid between states due to climate change.

Minister Borg went on to say that, even at a local level, Malta is determined to continue giving all the necessary support around the world, and so far has already allocated around €1 million.
