No PM briefing on EU summits in Parliament since July – PN whip

Tuesday, 28 March 2023, 11:32 Last update: about 3 months ago

Prime Minister Robert Abela hasn’t given a briefing in parliament following a European Union summit since July, PN MP Robert Cutajar said on Monday.

In a parliamentary question, Cutajar asked how come Abela, “unlike his predecessors”, has not given briefings in Parliament after attending these monthly summits.

In his answer Government Whip Andy Ellul said that “the Prime Minister has always approached this House and gave the necessary information”, adding that “in this regard” the government will be communicating with the Speaker of the House Anglu Farrugia.

Cutajar pointed out how Abela attended the spring summit in Brussels last week, however there was no briefing from the Prime Minister following the meeting.

The spring summit traditionally takes place with the termination of the first quarter of the year.

Cutajar also expressed his hope for the Prime Minister to continue the “practice of these briefings” following such summits, adding that this would help both the opposition and the government to ask questions where they deem fit.
