Balzan registered a very important win in their quest for European football after winning with the odd goal in five against Mosta.
Mosta are having a great season and apart from searching a European spot, they are also with a chance of silverware since they are in the semi finals of the Izibet FA Trophy.
In their last match Mosta registered a very important win beating Gzira United in a direct clash for European qualification.
On the other hand even Balzan had a successful season so far after a difficult season last year finishing just a point off the relegation zone. But their last match resulted in a drubbing against Champions Hamrun Spartans, this was their first defeat of this calendar year.
In the first round match Mosta emerged winners against Balzan by the odd goal in three.
After a rather sloppy start Mosta took the lead on 25 minutes when Ememe supplied the cross from the right side and in came Duane Bonnici who slotted the ball home.
Six minutes later Balzan responded with Kaljevic finding Satariano whose shot brought the best out of Akpan. Three minutes from the end of the first half Balzan drew level. Torres made his way in the opposing half and was brought down in the area by Tenebe. The match official pointed to the penalty spot and gave the marching orders to the Mosta player. Kaljevic made no mistake from the spot.
The second half was on the same pattern of the first forty five minutes. Mosta were unlucky when they hit the woodwork just off the hour through Failla.
But they were not to be denied in going in front when ten minutes later Failla scored with a beauty from a rebounded free kick.
Balzan drew level on 74 minutes through a shot by Torres Quinones. With the same player finding the net five minutes later, a goal which proved to be the winner.
