Floriana easily cruised past Marsaxlokk in a one-sided affair with the Greens always in command especially after taking the lead on 27 minutes.
The match was rather balanced and sloppy until the opening goal with play mainly in midfield and with the Greens never giving the impression they were heading for a massive victory.
But the match changed completely after Floriana’s opener and the Greens never looked back with Marsaxlokk dominated. Marsaxlokk will now focus on the forthcoming FA Trophy semifinals.
Floriana opened the score on 27 minutes when Magri Overend crossed towards Cassar who fired home with the ball finishing in the top corner of the net. Five minutes later Floriana doubled the score when Jan Busuttil dribbled past goalkeeper Drobnjak and passed towards trillo who slotted home.
On 36 minutes another opportunity for the Greens with Magri Overend testing Drobnjak. Three minutes later Floriana made it three when Veselji passed towards the unmarked Arias who slotted home.
In stoppage time Floriana scored the fourth goal when Veselji was floored by Drobnjak and from the resultant penalty Jan Busuttil managed to beat Drobnjak who partially saved but the ball still finished past the goal line.
The match was dead and buried and eight minutes into the second half Floriana made it five when Veselji passed towards Busuttil who crowned a great performance with yet another goal.
Late in the game Marsaxlokk rallied back in search of a consolation goal and were unlucky when an Attard shot hit the upright but three minutes from time Marsaxlokk were rewarded when a Vella freekick completely deceived the Floriana custodian.
