The National Broadcaster has reached an agreement to coordinate the broadcasting of the Games of the Small States of Europe through the country's three main stations, the Education and Sport Ministry has said.
"The Games of the Small States of Europe are for athletes and sportspeople as much as they are for the Maltese and Gozitan people, and that is why we will ensure that these games are brought into our homes so that everyone can enjoy this sporting spectacle," Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima said, during a press conference where details were provided on the important role that the broadcast media will play in this international event.
It was explained that following discussions, an agreement was reached for the National Broadcaster, together with a number of private companies, to coordinate their resources to bring the games into peoples' homes.
The public will be able to attend the sports facilities where the games are taking place, however, those who cannot leave their homes can follow frequent transmissions throughout the games.
These transmissions will include both sporting events and other transmissions related to each competition. The transmissions will include technical interviews, interviews with athletes, and the awarding of medals to the winners, the government said.
"I have been receiving excellent responses from my colleagues responsible for sports in the various countries who will be represented in our country. The expectation of their presence here is a big one, especially when one considers that this event could not take place during the pandemic. Our country will meet all expectations, because of the hard work that has been done," Grima said.
He said he is also proud of the commitment of the athletes and sportspeople who are to represent Malta in various sports. Grima said that he is satisfied to see the commitment and dedication of all those involved, the athletes, the professionals who train them, all the workers involved in the different sports facilities that will be used and the organizers, who are doing their utmost to ensure that the Small Countries Games in our country will be a reflection of all that Malta and Gozo offer in the sports sector.
