An 81-year-old man is in danger of dying after he fell down a flight of stairs in Valletta on Monday afternoon, police said.

Police said in a statement that they were informed of a request for assistance in Triq il-Mediterran in Valletta at around 2:15pm on Monday.

Preliminary investigations on site showed than an 81-year-old man from Scotland had sustained injuries after falling down a flight of stairs.

A medical team was called on site and an ambulance took the man to Mater Dei Hospital where he was certified as suffering from serious injuries.

Duty magistrate Abigail Critien is leading an inquiry while police investigations are also ongoing.
