The next elections for the European Parliament will be held between the 6th and 9th of June in 2024, the European Council announced on Wednesday.

This means that 400 million voters across Europe will go to the polls to elect the roughly 700-seat European Parliament for the following five years.

The exact polling day is chosen by each country.  Malta traditionally holds elections on a Saturday, meaning that the polling day is likely to be the 8th of June.

The elections for all local councils in Malta and Gozo will also be held in parallel with the MEP elections.

Following the confirmation by EU Ambassadors at the Council on setting 6 to 9 June 2024 as the dates for the next European Parliament elections, EP President Roberta Metsola said:

“The European Union is evolving continuously. The world is changing and we must change with it. We need reform. We cannot be afraid of change. The EU is not perfect. We must embrace it as we keep listening, keep explaining and keep delivering.

I encourage everyone to recapture the sense of hope and possibility that the European Union offers. To vote. Do not let someone else choose for you. Be part of the largest democratic exercise in Europe.”
