Government has launched a public consultation to prepare the second policy and action plan on integration, following the implementation of the first strategic framework over the past five years.

The public consultation is being initiated to involve citizens before finalizing the second policy in the sector, government said.

The document, which aims to address current social realities, has been drafted by a dedicated working group led by the Directorate for Human Rights and composed of individuals who directly or indirectly work on integration, including representatives from Local Councils, Identity Malta, the Police Force, and a representative from the Refugee Community.

Parliamentary Secretary for Reforms and Equality Rebecca Buttigieg said that the processes that led to the publication of this document will undergo public consultation while listing the main objectives for the future.

She said that this public consultation will contribute to the implementation of an Action Plan that addresses various key areas, including the creation of safer communities and equal opportunities within the social and economic needs of our country."

In integration policy, there is no one-size-fits-all solution, but there must be a series of measures that, together, lead to a better society for us and our children. We need to address this subject with maturity and responsibility, so as to truly tackle the challenges we face but in a way that takes us away from misinformation," Buttigieg said.

Present at the event was Alexander Tortell from the Directorate for Human Rights, who coordinates the working group. He stated that the document presented to the public clearly reflects the knowledge and skills gained in this sector over the past years, ensuring that the measures to be included in the second policy align with the needs of all individuals.
