Health Minister Chris Fearne must answer to the allegations that were made about his close collaborator Carmen Ciantar, who suspended her position as CEO of the Foundation for Medical Services following bribery allegations, the Nationalist Party said.

Fearne said Thursday he had accepted Ciantar’s “suspension” and urged the police to investigate the allegations made against her.

She tendered her “suspension” from the post of CEO at the Foundation for Medical Services on Wednesday after a Pakistani news portal report claiming that she had received a bribe.

Ciantar herself has also written to the police commissioner Thursday to investigate the "unfounded" report "simply because I have nothing to hide".

In a statement Thursday, the Nationalist Party said this is another scandal that has hit the health sector. Fearne should answer to the allegation that Ciantar allegedly received a €443,500 bribe from the VGH group, which had won a tender to run three public hospitals. The concession was later passed to Steward Health Care, but the deal was annulled by a court of law last February.

The more time passes, the more scandals are emerging, the PN said, urging the police commissioner to investigate all allegations made with regard to the hospitals deal.
