Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech slammed the government for being too preoccupied defending its web of lies, rather than investing in people and improving the quality of life.

Grech said this during a political meeting on Sunday at Naxxar’s PN club, where PN MPs Jerome Caruana Cilia and Paula Mifsud Bonnici also spoke.

Grech began by referring to all the recent revelations that have come out surrounding former CEO of the Foundation for Medical Services (FMS) Carmel Ciantar.

This instance and everything surrounding it showed that there are internal conflicts within the government at the moment, who are only concerned about defending themselves rather than investing in the people, Grech said.

When the PN used to be in government, Grech mentioned how it used to invest a lot of money in the people to improve their quality of life.

“People have the right to know,” Grech said whilst slamming the government for constantly lying and then depending on the Public Broadcasting Station to support their lie.

The PN believes that people will make the right decision and vote correctly if they know all the facts, Grech said.

Grech said that there should be a public inquiry into what has happened and what is happening to the elderly home in Cospicua which the government plans to move residents out and demolish.

He added that there should also be a public inquiry into the death of Jean Paul Sofia, although the government has ignored these calls numerous times.

Moreover, he praised the institutions that are functioning properly and not “bowing down to Robert Abela’s government.”

He praised the court for carrying out justice although Abela has been publicly attacking this institution. He also praised the office of the Auditor General who has released reports highlighting a number of shortcomings of this government.

Whilst Abela usually ignores these reports, with the most recent report into the hospitals’ concession deal, Grech said that Abela has started to believe his own lies and said that the report showed that he was right.

When mentioning the economic model, Grech insisted that this has to change as the current one is unsustainable and acting as a detriment to the quality of life. He mentioned that not even foreigners are happy with the quality of life in Malta, as they are leaving after a year of being here.

Lastly, he pointed out how the PN has presented a bill to include the Environment as one of the fundamental rights of the individual in Malta, which would people the right to defend a quality environment.

When Caruana Cilia spoke he pointed out how the country is facing a number of challenges at the moment, however, the government is yet to do anything about this.

“Who caused the problem cannot be the solution,” Caruana Cilia repeated a number of times whilst speaking.

He mentioned how Malta is over €9 billion in debt in terms of absolute numbers and said that the PN would never waste money on a number of scandals the PL has been involved with such as the hospitals’ deal and Café Premier.
