Public consultation process launched in relation to the Victoria Urban Upgrade Project

Tuesday, 27 June 2023, 06:15 Last update: about 12 months ago

The Gozo Regional Development Authority (GRDA) has launched a public consultation process regarding the proposal to carry out an urban regeneration project in Victoria.

In view of the present challenges, namely the lack of green open spaces, the need for more parking spaces, and to address traffic congestion, the Authority is proposing its vision for the regeneration of an entire area, spread over more than 22,000 square meters. Central to this vision is the fact that the area that is currently occupied by a car park will be transformed into an open space accessible to everyone, while an underground car park will also be created that will accommodate around 800 vehicles.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri stated that this proposal being put forward by the GRDA builds on the Government's vision, that of generating open spaces in the centre of our towns and villages. I welcome with satisfaction this initiative that the Authority is undertaking. This is the first step to start this major project in Gozo which will bring a drastic change in Victoria”, said the Minister for Gozo.

GRDA’s CEO Mario Borg said that the consultation process will invite all those interested to give their contribution so that this project really addresses the present and future challenges. He emphasized that the vision that the Authority is presenting is not a final one but intended to raise a debate and the interest of the public in general. Mr Borg invited everyone who is interested to contribute during this consultation process where the proposals and the necessary documents are available to the public from the website of the same Authority: https://grda.mt/consultation/victoria-urban-upgrade/

The public consultation process will come to a close on 1st September, 2023.
