President Vella departs for State visit to Greece

President of Malta George Vella and Mrs Vella left Malta this morning for a State Visit to Greece.

During the visit, President Vella will have an official meeting with the President of Greece, Katerina N. Sakellaropoulou.

This State Visit follows President Sakellaropoulou’s visit to Malta for the informal meeting of the Non-Executive Heads of State of the European Union, known as the Arraiolos Group, which was held last October.

The President’s engagements in Athens also include a meeting with the Prime Minister of Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who was re-elected to office a few days ago.

In Athens, the President and Mrs Vella are also expected to meet with the Maltese community in Greece.

The delegation of the President of Malta in Greece includes Minister for Tourism Clayton Bartolo.

For the duration of President George Vella’s engagements in Greece, Professor Frank Bezzina will serve as Acting President of Malta. The President and Mrs Vella will return to Malta on Thursday, 6 July 2023.
