Newly launched national blood transfusion service campaign labels donors as super heroes

The National Blood Transfusion Service has launched a new national campaign with the theme of 'Super Donators', shedding light on the need for more and more blood donations.

The campaign therefore salutes all blood donors as super heroes, as with one donation these individuals have the potential to save at least three lives that are in danger.

During a visit to the Blood Donation Centre in Gwardamanġia, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne met with some of the donors who participated in the campaign together with centre workers, where he heard how the positive experiences of donors encourage them to give regular donations while encouraging their relatives and friends to do the same.

"You really deserve to be called super heroes, because without your gesture to help people who are vulnerable and in need our medical professionals would not be able to treat and save them. For this, on behalf of the professionals and on behalf of the Maltese and Gozitan people, I thank you," Fearne told the donors present.

Fearne explained that the National Blood Transfusion Service is always at the forefront of updating its protocols to be in accordance with the latest international studies, and of investing in innovative machines so that it is possible for more people to be blood donors.

He said that through this investment last year the parameters of donor eligibility were widened which led to people of all sexual orientations being able to donate blood.

The Health Minister urged everyone who is eligible to take some time out of their day and visit the Gwardamanġia Centre or the Mobile Blood Donation Unit to donate blood.
