Conference League: Joseph Mbong brace gives Spartans deserved victory over Dinamo Tbilisi

Hamrun Spartans turned defeat into victory in a hard-fought match against Dinamo Tbilisi in the second qualifying round for the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Dinamo Tbisili opened the scoring in the 60th minute through substitute Marusic, with Hamrun Spartans taking the lead thanks to a double by their hero Joseph Mbong in the last ten minutes of play.

Hamrun were dangerous in the first five minutes of play from a corner given by Prsa to Duranovic on the first post, with the striker's finish going just wide.

Hamrun were once again dangerous from a Prsa set piece a few minutes later, this time with a free kick from the right side ending up in the hands of goalkeeper Loria.

After 15 minutes of play, lateral midfielder Elionay tried his luck from outside the box, but his conclusion did not create any danger towards the opponents' net. On 20 minutes, Joseph Mbong's shot from close range was deflected by Dinamo's defence.

In the 34th minute, a corner for Dinamo Tbisili resulted in a powerful header by Osei and a good save by goalkeeper Marchetti.

A few minutes later, an attempt from outside the box by Imrane Oulad Omar ended up just outside, with Dinamo Tbisili being more dangerous towards the last quarter of the first half.

In the 43rd minute Dinamo had another chance for Elionay from a suggestion by Painstil, which this time ended up in the goalkeeper's hands from a low and central finish.

Dinamo Tbisili went on the offensive from the start in the second half, with a quick counter-attack from the midfield that ended up at the feet of the attacker Skhirtladze, whose shot went slightly wide.

Eventually it was Dinamo Tbisili who opened the scoring on the hour mark, starting from a mistake by the Hamrun defense, with the substitute Zoran Marusic leaving his mark right away by putting the ball at the back of the net.

Hamrun Spartans responded well a few minutes later thanks to a finish from outside the box by Roko Prsa, with the ball deflecting off the post and going out.

Spartans’ equaliser finally came ten minutes from time. The action started from to a dangerous low free-kick by Bjelicic, whose shot was initially saved by Loria. but no one could block Joseph Mbong's attempt from the rebound.

The last ten minutes of great pressure from Hamrun proved fruitful, as in the last moments of added time, the hero of the day Joseph Mbong managed to find the back of the net with a powerful finish from an acute angle.
