Local champions Hamrun Spartans had another glorious European night yesterday in Tbilisi beating Dinamo Tbilisi 1-0 to qualify 3-1 on aggregate. It was a heroic performance from the Spartans who had to play the whole second half with ten men.

It is not clear what led to the sending off at half time of striker Djuranovic, but apparently the Hamrun match winner and the Dinamo Tbilisi manager had a more than heated argument in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms.

Both did not return on the field of play for the second forty five minutes, but obviously Hamrun had more to lose from the double red card.

And the Spartans went close on 27 minutes when Ryan Camenzuli hit the side netting. Minutes later Marchetti saved a Khvadagiani header.

In the stoppage time of the first half Hamrun scored what proved to be the winner when Paintsil crossed towards Djuranovic who had a splendid control of the ball before drilling the ball home.

With Hamrun down to ten men, Dinamo pushed everything forward on the resumption and on 63 minutes Marchetti saved his side off Kharaishvili.

Dinamo pushed everything forward in the last quarter of the game with Hamrun forced to defend with players like Bjelicic and Marcelina in great form.

In the last minutes Hamrun had a couple of lucky escapes with Dinamo twice hitting the posts with another effort skimming the crossbar.

Marchetti made a couple of outstanding saves too as the Spartans managed to withstand the onslaught to gain a precious victory and another qualification where they will now face the once mighty Ferencvaros in the third qualifying round.
