A man on Wednesday was accused of beating his wife with a broomstick and knocking her down the stairs.

The incident took place on Tuesday morning, with the woman contacting the police to report that her partner had just assaulted her. The woman needed treatment for a broken arm, with a doctor certifying her injuries as grievous.

The man, who cannot be named by court order, is facing charges of causing his partner grievous bodily harm, breaching the peace and using electronic equipment to make threats. He pleaded not guilty and requested bail.
