Handball Tournament: Phoenix Cup

The Phoenix Cup 2023 is the first edition of an international, friendly, amateur handball competition, organised by Phoenix Sports Club, that will be taking place between 8 and 10 September 2023. Three men's teams will be facing each other: Swieqi Phoenix Handball Club, Ħamrun Handball Club, and AGF Handbold. The knockoout phase will take place on Saturday 9 September where each team will face each other once. The games will be played at the Tal-Qroqq University Sports Hall and played between 9am and 1.30pm. The top two teams will play in the final that will take place on Sunday 10 September at 4:30pm.

Swieqi Phoenix - The host of the tournament. The Swieqi Phoenix Mens' handball team are a 3-time Malta Handball Premier League Winners. The club was founded in 2010 where they have competed both in the domestic league and internationally in the EHF Cup.  If you wish to start playing handball, contact Phoenix handball on [email protected] or 79449359.

Ħamrun Handball Club - Ħamrun are a local team who was founded in 2017 and compete within the Maltese Handball League. They have recently been crowned champions of the 1st Division title of the 2022/23 season.

AGF Håndbold - A Danish team originating from Aarhus, Denmark. The club has a successful history, winning the Danish Championship 3 times and the Danish Trophy. It is a team partially made up of volunteer members who support the local handball community.
