Seven persons were held by the police after they were caught without a residence permit during inspections carried out in Sliema on Friday night, the police said.
Others were caught driving Y-plate cars without having the necessary permits from Transport Malta, the police said. Two vehicles were seized.
The exercise was part of regular inspections being carried out by the police, Transport Malta, Jobs Plus and the Detention Services, in a bid to keep roads safe, the police said.
More than 100 cars were stopped by the officers, and in the majority of cases, all was in order.
Some drivers were caught behind the wheel without a licence, no licence affixed to the windscreen, use of mobile phones and other contraventions.
