The Nationalist Party has said that politics can be a means to improve people's lives.

"We need to understand the suffering around us and where we can, we will be a refuge for everyone in need," the PN said in a statement on Monday.

Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech visited a soup kitchen in Valletta during the Independence holidays, focusing on the theme "Ħajja Aħjar f'Pajjiżna" (Better life in our country). The PN expressed concern regarding the situation some people find themselves in, living on the streets or living in garages without access to electricity.

The Opposition recalled statistics from last December which showed that 91% of those who utilise the soup kitchen are Maltese. It explained that the Valletta-based soup kitchen provides food for around 140 people per day. It said that the soup kitchen's work is valuable and mentioned how the Franciscan Friars were awarded the European Citizen's Prize after being nominated by PN MEP David Casa.

Grech thanked the volunteers at the soup kitchen, who are providing a service under the guidance of Father Marcellino for those seeking refuge and assistance. Grech was accompanied by Nationalist MPs and Spokespersons Graziella Galea, Albert Buttigieg and Ivan Bartolo.
