In an emotional video, a teacher of six years has explained why she is leaving the profession, blaming it all on the “terrible” working conditions.
Describing herself as a hardworking and dedicated teacher, Shanice, better known by her popular instagram page as my_life_with_pixiedust speaks about the “very problematic” Maltese education system.
Shanice said that it was her dream to teach, and that it broke her heart to send in her resignation letter.
In listing some of the reasons which led to this decision, ending her 6-year teaching career, she said that working conditions were terrible, and that she overthought a lot about the children even after school hours. Moreover, apart from the pay not reflecting the amount of work done, she said that teachers also use their own money to pay for classroom necessities.
Shanice said that mostly she will miss being a teacher, something which she said she was good at, and being part of the children’s lives.
The teacher took the opportunity to warn authorities to “act on it before it’s too late”, in order not to lose any more teachers.
