A man was arrested on Thursday following a theft from a Sliema shop, the police said.

From investigations it resulted that the man, aged 21, had been involved in three other thefts on the same day, one in Valletta and the other two also in Sliema.

The police said that at 9pm on Wednesday it was informed that a man wielding a knife had entered a shop in Dingli Street Sliema and demanded money from the cashier, a 37-year-old man of St Paul’s Bay.

The man made off with some cash and the police immediately mounted a search for him, while an inquiry led by Magistrate Lara Lanfranco was launched.

It resulted that the man was the same person who had entered a hotel in Ifran Street, Valletta, from where he also made off with stolen cash.

Another theft was reported from a hostel in Sir George Borg Street in Sliema at 4am, and later stole a wallet and a mobile phone from a car in Tower Road.

The police located the man in Valletta on Thursday morning and arrested him.
