A €7 million investment, co-financed by EU funds, in new cleaning and maintenance apparatus has been made, which includes in hook loaders, vans, rough terrain utility vehicles, compact sweepers, pedestrian sweepers, among others, the government said.

These machines are electric and are expected to improve efficiency, the statement read.

Details of the investment were published during a conference called: 'Connecting Your Future: For a Cleaner Malta,' addressed by Tourism Minister Clayton Bartolo, Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds Chris Bonett, Public Service Head Tony Sultana, and others.

Bartolo said that it would be pointless to aspire to have the most beautiful hotels, bays and shops if the country is  taken over by the disobedience of some when it comes to public cleanliness and maintenance.

"This investment is a declaration that the government will continue to engage in favor of more quality in the Maltese and Gozitan tourist product," Bartolo said.

Bonett said that this investment will usher in a new era in urban cleaning.
