Days after opening the door to a possible return of Rosianne Cutajar, Prime Minister Robert Abela has made a similar comment with regard to former minister Justyne Caruana.
Caruana had resigned twice, but speaking on Xtra on TVM, Abela opened up the door for a possible return.
Cutajar has resigned from the Labour parliamentary group after chats with Yorgen Fenech, the alleged mastermind in the Daphne Caruana Galizia murder, were made public. Abela last week said that Cutajar had paid a high political price.
The same could be said for Justyne Caruana, he said on Monday.
Caruana had resigned in January 2020 after reports about the relationship between her then husband, police assistant commissioner Silvio Valletta, with Yorgen Fenech. She had then been reinstated in November 2020 as Education Minister, but resigned a year later after a report by the Standards Commissioner found that she had given her boyfriend a €15,000 contract.
Abela said that a return of politicians to the Labour fold would be seen on a case by case basis. He said some kind of behaviour excluded one from politics for life; but other kinds of behaviour excluded them for a shorter span.
Abela said that Clint Camilleri was the most logical solution as planning minister. He said Camilleri was one of the main people behind the regional development strategy for Gozo, is convinced on the importance of rural sites and seeks the preservation of characteristics unique to each village.
The cabinet reshuffle, he said when asked about Abela's changes announced earlier this year, also enhanced the rate of implementation of PL's electoral pledges.
Abela said that the next President of the Republic should be progressive, not conservative, and should be a unifying factor in the country.
