The Malta Police Force traffic unit will begin using a fleet of 24 motorcycles which were bought at a cost of €600,000.

A separate fleet of 22 scooters was also bought to be used by the Central Delivery Office to distribute the Courts’ referrals across Malta and Gozo.

Minister Byron Camilleri said that investments such as this continue to be a testimony to the Government’s willingness to invest in the Police Force. He also added that eventually, through these investments, local communities will benefit from these investments as security is strengthened.

The Minister described how these motorcycles are equipped with several safety features which will enable members of the Police Force to best fulfil their duties within local communities.

“We are continuing to invest in the traffic unit also with the aim of implementing the Roads Policing budget measure over the coming months, which is something new, with more technology in the Police Force”, he said.

Police Commissioner Angelo Gafà stated that for officers within this unit, their motorcycles are their office.

“It is an investment that will lead to more comfort, but above all, it will lead to more security that will help us provide our service in the community in a more efficient way”, Gafà said.

Inspector Nicholas Vella from the traffic unit said that this investment continues to strengthen them in order to increase safety on Maltese and Gozitan roads.
