Hamrun Spartans registered their biggest win so far when they easily disposed off Balzan by a 7-1 scoreline. Ironically it was Balzan who took the lead but the Spartans scored at regular intervals to gain a convincing win.

Man of the match Luke Montebello scored four goals with Duranovic getting a brace so that Hamrun kept the three point advantage over Floriana who had just beaten Santa Lucia.

Balzan coach Oliver Spiteri gave the debut to Jan Busuttil who was involved in a swap deal with Jake Grech during this week.

Nine minutes had elapsed and Balzan took a surprising lead. Rommens found Aleksander Katanic who from a tight angle found the net.

But Hamrun responded quickly with two goals which turned their match in their favour. On 18 minutes Triston Caruana brought down Ryan Camenzuli and from the resultant penalty Luke Montebello made no mistake.

And few minutes later the Spartans took the lead. Jonny won a tussle with Samir Arab, his cross finding Uros Duranovic whose beautiful shot found the corner of the net.

But Hamrun left their best for the second period. In fact after just a few seconds they scored their third goal. Uros Duranovic made the best of a defensive lapes by Braunovic and after making his way forward lobbed over Golovic.

More goals were still in store and just off the hour mark the Spartans made it 4-1. Luke Montebello finding the net after being set by Jonny.

Hamrun kept on dictating the match and scoring at regular intervals. On 72 minutes a Seth Paintsil shot hit the crossbar and in came Roko Prsa who slotted the ball home.

Hamrun scored two more goals in stoppage time through Luke Montebello. A penalty once again converted in style by the Spartans attacker and minutes later Montebello scored his fourth and his side’s seventh, these four goals putting him at the top of the scorers table with thirteen goals.
