Independent candidate Arnold Cassola has written to the European Socialists group to ask them whether they are willing to accept former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat as an MEP candidate.

In a letter sent the leaders of the Party of European Socialists and of the Socialist and Democratic Group in the EP, Cassola informed them about Muscat’s openness to become a candidate for the Labour Party in the next EP election, and Prime Minister Robert Abela’s willingness to accept him.

“As the Party of European Socialists knows well, in 2019 Joseph Muscat was voted the most corrupt world politician in the world by the OCCRP,” Cassola writes.

“Does the PES approve of this European candidature of one of its member parties?” Cassola asked.

Maltese voters are entitled to know whether the European Socialists are ready to accept Muscat in their fold, he said.
