Gzira and Balzan figured in a 1‐1 draw, a result that leaves Gzira and to a certain extent Balzan, in troubled waters. The Maroons remain in the bottom four and the relegation worries are ever increasing.

Gzira were the better team in the first half and have only themselves to blame for scoring only one goal in the first fourty five minutes. Balzan were at difficulty in the first part with Brooklyn Borg missing two good scoring opportunities in the opening minutes.

Macula was in splendid form as he regularly created havoc in the Balzan defence. Triston Caruana failed to control the ball and Mendoza missed a sitter all alone in front of goal. Balzan almost scored when Bohrer nearly put at the back of his own net in an attempt to clear.

Macula had a goal from a corner action disallowed, but the same Macula was not to be denied on 39 minutes when he grabbed the ball on the half way line, dribbled around two defenders before shooting low into the net.

On the resumption Gzira contin‐ ued to dictate with Macula hitting over the bar after receiving from Aldama and Zachary Scerri’s effort was blocked by Golovic. Balzan drew level on 62 minutes when Rommens hit home with a great shot from the edge of the area.

After this goal the game was very balanced with both sides more in‐ tent on keeping the point earned than trying to grab the three at stake. This resulted in a cagey af‐ fair in the last thirty minutes, leaving both sides in an almost desperate position in the lower half of the table.
