A new community clinic has been inaugurated in Qala, Gozo by the Minister for Health and Active Ageing Jo Etienne Abela along with the Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri.

The Ministry for Health and Active Ageing said that this clinic will be offering the services of a family doctor, speech and language pathology, physiotherapy, podiatry, and eye screening, which means that it will be the first community clinic in Gozo which offers such a service.

The works on the new clinic were carried out by workers from the Ministry for Gozo and Planning, and the clinic was partially financed by the National Development and Social Fund. The Ministry said that the clinic will be serving over 2,500 residents in Qala as well as people living in the surrounding area.

Minister Abela said that with this model, the government is continuing to put the patient at the centre of care at the primary health level. He added that patients will also be benefitting from full accessibility to timely professional services with the help of the Electronic Patient Record computerised system.

He said that the government remains committed to continuing to invest and strengthen primary care in the community so that a health service of the highest level can continue to be offered.

Minister Camilleri said that after having opened the community clinics in Gharb and in Victoria a few months ago, a third has now been opened in Qala so that Gozo’s health demands can continue to be met. He continued that the works carried out in this building testify to the government’s commitment towards improving the infrastructure and healthcare services in Gozo for the benefit of both the residents and the medical professionals.
