The newly-established Association of Builders and Contractors will be part of the Advisory Council on Building and Construction as another stakeholder in charge of the changes being made in the construction sector.

The Minister for Justice and Reform of the Construction Sector Jonathan Attard attended the official inauguration of this association.

“Even before it was formally founded, I saw in this association a strong interlocutor who can be a great contribution in carrying out the reformative process that the sector is going through,” Minister Attard stated.

The establishment of this association will strengthen the collaboration between builders, contractors and licensed architects to continue raising standards in the sector. Minister Attard also noted the success of the members that within six months, not only managed to reach this milestone, but managed to register more than 200 members on the day of its formation.

The Minister stressed the importance of collaboration between the association and the authorities while referencing the needs for restructuring and increased enforcement. This was described with the aim of fostering a new culture in which the sector can be allowed to work in harmony with third parties who are still being affected by construction works.

“I am convinced that this association will not only be a strong voice for its members, but also a catalyst for real changes in the construction industry,” Minister Attard concluded.

The President of the association, Michael Cutajar, expressed the collective satisfaction of the committee on the news that the Advisory Council Committee on Building and Construction welcomed the recommendation that it will offer the possibility of stronger participation in the reforms and changes that need to be made in the sector.

He reiterated Minister Attard’s call on the need for restructuring and added enforcement. Cutajar also said that where necessary, drastic measures will be taken, such as necessary suspensions until the persons in questions regulate themselves in an effort to really raise standards.

At the end of the ceremony, the members were presented with a certificate of membership in the Council.
